February 14th was a special day for hip-hop fans across the world as rapper Kanye West dropped his seventh studio album Life of Pablo.
Prior to the release of the album Kanye went on Twitter rants, changed the album title multiple times and let off a bunch of promotional singles (“Facts,” “Real Friends,” “No More Parties in LA” and “30 Hours”). The album first title was “So God Help Me” and then it changed to “Swish” and then Kanye finally settled with “Life Of Pablo”.
The Life Of Pablo was released exclusively on Tidal and two months after its release it peaked at the number one spot of the Billboard Top 200 chart based on stream-only consumptions.
Recording sessions for the album reportedly took place from 2013 to 2016, in Italy, Mexico, Canada and the United States but after its release, Kanye continued to make changes to the music.
Record production on the album was handled by West and a variety of producers, including Mike Dean, Noah Goldstein, Metro Boomin, Rick Rubin, Hudson Mohawke, whilst guest artistes include The Weeknd, Ty Dolla Sign, Desiigner, Kid Cudi, The-Dream, Chance the Rapper, Rihanna, Sampha, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean.
The album was named among the best albums of 2016 by multiple publications, and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, while both “Ultralight Beam” and “Famous” were nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song.
Kanye is reportedly working on his eight solo studio album
