Gianni Infantino : Russia ready to host World Cup Read

The FIFA Executive Football Summit was opened on Tuesday in Nigeria’s commercial capital city of Lagos. The Summit, which is one of 12 meetings being staged across the world between November 2017 and March 2018, is part of FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s vision of “bringing FIFA back to football and football back to FIFA.”

The Summit comes less than 24 hours after the inaugural edition of the AITEO-NFF Football Awards on Monday night, which was attended by FIFA President and some officials of FIFA as well as the President of CAF.

The FIFA team led by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinmunmi Ambode on Monday.

The FIFA boss said the focus of the summit in Lagos was to improve age-grade competitions, while he also praised hosts Nigeria for their success in such tournaments.

Nigeria have won the under-17 World Cup a record five times, beginning with the inaugural edition in 1985 in China.

After the summit FIFA president insisted that Russia is ready to host the World Cup later this year, despite reports that several stadiums have failed to meet completion deadlines.

“Russia is 99 per cent ready to host the World Cup, they are putting the last finishing touches and everyone who is going to Russia will have a fantastic time,” Infantino said at a press briefing in Lagos after a FIFA summit.

“Arrangements are all in place to make it a great experience.”

On Monday, Infantino was honoured with a special award by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
