What Ghanaian Millennials are Saying About Girls Trip 2

The internet, especially top social media platforms like Elon Musk’s Twitter, was thrown into a frenzy when the latest update of the American comedy film’s return broke.

Girls Trip starring Holywood superstars Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Larenz Tate, Mike Colter, Kate Walsh, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Queen Latifah was a commercial success when it was premiered and theatrically released in 2017 by Universal Pictures, ultimately becoming the first comedy of that year to gross $140 million worldwide on its $19 million production budget.

The film which has four lifelong friends reconnecting after five years on a trip that ended up rekindling their sisterhood bond, rediscovering their wild sides, and living through everything in between, became a culturally significant moment in black cinema, as the main characters – black and female, were at their raucous and raunchiest best.

It is unsurprising that fans of Girls Trip, which was adjudged the Outstanding Motion Picture at the 49th NAACP Image Awards have since counted down to the news of the film’s sequel. What many didn’t see coming is the plan to set the second Girls Trip adventure in Ghana, the West African country which has become the mecca for many African-American tourists worldwide.
