British supermodel, Naomi Campbell has been named the international Tourism Ambassador of Kenya.
The announcement was made by the Kenya Tourism Board and the Kenyan Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
The agreement is said to have been made following a meeting between Najib Balala, head of the ministry and Campbell over the weekend.
She is expected to use her celebrity status to shore up the efforts of stakeholders in the tourism sector of the East African country.
“Supermodel Naomi Campbell has agreed to be Magical Kenya International Tourism Ambassador. She will help promote the marketing of Kenya as an ideal tourism and travel destination to the world,” reads part of the statement by the Kenyan Tourism ministry.
“We welcome the exciting news that Naomi Campbell will advocate for tourism and travel internationally for the magical Kenya brand,” added Balala.
Kenyan media reported that Campbell spent the Christmas and New Year holidays in the tourist resort town of Malindi.
She congratulated the government for tourism infrastructural developments including the upgrading of the Malindi Airport at the coast and the international accreditation of a golf course in Vipingo Ridge.
