Muse Africa has rolled out Muse Bangers of the Year – a multi-platform music initiative instituted to highlight the songs that dominated the Ghanaian radio landscape for the year 2020.
The initiative also looked to reiterate the power and relevance of radio platforms in shaping the taste of consumers and amplifying the works of music talents.
Out of 100 songs, 15 songs representing 15% were music from the 10 female artists on the list.
MzVee had the most entries among the female artistes with three songs whilst Adina, Wendy Shay and Gyakie had two each. Efya, Sista Efya, Becca, Cina Soul, Philipa Baafi and Tiisha had one song.
In terms of spins, Adina had the most with 2382 spins followed by MzVee with 1645 spins.
Here are the top 10 female artists and the number of radio spins they got.
Wendy Shay (770 spins), Gyakie (710 spins), Efya (668 spins), Sista Afia (425 spins), Becca (417), Cina Soul (337), Philipa Baafi (263) and Tiisha (231.)
A two-hour immersive show hosted by Antoine Mensah aired on partner radio stations, Asaase Radio 99.5 in Accra, Pure 95.7 FM in Kumasi, and on Empire 102.7 FM in Takoradi over five consecutive days between Saturday, December 26 to Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
The show featured tastemakers and stakeholders in the Ghanaian music space, sharing their hot takes on the songs and artists who made the charts.
Muse Bangers of the Year 2020 focused on songs released between January 1st and November 30th, 2020. The data size covered over 8, 000 songs that have been tagged and tracked by the artificial intelligence platform built by technology partner for the initiative, GHUD Music, and covering several genres.
