The nominations for the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) have been released today which had Nigeria’s Burna Boy and Rema nominated for the Best African Act category; a category which was won by Burna Boy last year.
Surprisingly, no Ghanaian act was nominated even after what many have described 2020 as a positive year for Ghanaian music with a lot of music and albums produced and released by local acts.
The nominations were dominated by Lady Gaga, BTS and Justin Bieber.
Gaga’s nominations include the best artist, best pop, and best video for her collaboration with Ariana Grande on “Rain On Me,” which also secured nominations for best song and best collaboration. (Gaga won five VMAs on the U.S. edition, which aired Aug. 30). BTS and Bieber’s nods include the biggest fans and best pop, which is sure to provide a contentious outcome as Army and Beliebers go head to head.
The two-hour “2020 MTV EMAs” will air globally on MTV in 180 countries and territories on Sunday, November 8, 2020. Fans can visit the voting portal of MTV to cast their votes for their favorites.
