The beginning of this decade has been a roller-coaster as many of us and not even fortunetellers could tell the world would be brought to a stand still with the deadly global Covid-19 pandemic.
The global pandemic saw some artists making change to their 2020 plans with some even cancelling their tour dates and album release dates.
Regardless of what happened and the impact Covid-19 had on the world if there is one thing it could not stop it has to be music.
Some artists however decided to release projects with Kidi’s Blue E.P being one of the most succesful projects released when Covid-19 was the topic for almost everyday.
Now 2020 might not be going as we planned but at least some good news is there are albums from some of your favorite artists that will be dropping soon, now lets get into it.
1 – Wizkid : Made In Lagos
If there is one album the entire African continent is waiting on even more than the second coming of Jesus Christ (that is if you believe in Religion) then it has to be Wizkid’s fourth studio album Made In Lagos.
Wizkid first talked about the album in an interview with DJ Semtex, which was released in February 2017. Then, Wizkid started using #MadeInLagos in various hashtags across his social media accounts.
Ever since then there has been four different release dates for the album and fans keep wondering if the album itself is completed or still in the mix and mastering process.
Wizkid last tweeted about the album on February 6, 2020, where he tweeted “Finally done! So you know what that means!”
Since then, Wizkid has intensified the teasers for Made In Lagos, but no official date has been set for the album but fans are hoping it will be released by the end of 2020.
2 – Kuami Eugene: Son of Africa
After releasing a commercially successful debut album ‘Rockstar’ in 2019, Kuami Eugene has released three songs ‘Turn Up’, Ghana We Dey which featured Shatta Wale and Samini and his newest single ‘Open Gate’ which will serve as the lead single to his forthcoming sophomore album
Rockstar was received with much positive reviews from critics therefore much is been expected from the ‘Angela’ singer for his ‘Son of Africa’ album which is scheduled for release in October. On August 8th the ‘Open Gate’ singer released the track-list for ‘Son of Africa’ with features from Falz, Zlatan, Eddie Kenzo, Shatta Wale, Samini, Prince Bright, Sarkodie, DJ Mensah and Obaapa Christy.
Kuami Euegene definitely has a message for Africa with his album and I can’t wait what he has been preparing since his successful debut album.
3 – Fireboy – Apollo
When Fireboy had his major breakthrough with his chart topping single ‘Jealous’ as usual fans had higher expectations for his next release but not really did we know the YBNL signed act was going to drop one of the best debut projects in 2019.
Fireboy’s ‘Laughter Tears and Goosebumps’ has so far surpassed 80 million streams on Audiomack and received generally positive reviews from music critics, but was criticized for being labeled an “Afro-Life” record instead of an R&B album.
On August 9th, the ‘King’ singer announced his sophomore album titled ‘Apollo’ will be released on August 20th with features from his label boss Olamide, Wande Coal and American Rapper D-Smoke. With his debut album criticized for being “Afro-Life” instead of an R&B album, we can definitely count on Fireboy to fulfill fans with an R&B album.
The Nigerian singer has so far released three singles ‘Tattoo’, ‘New York City Girl’ and ‘Eli’ as the lead singles for the album.
4 – DJ Cuppy: Original Copy
When DJ Cuppy released Jollof On The Jet which featured Rapper and Singer Rema & Rayvanny little did we know the Record Producer and Disc Jockey was preparing us for her much anticipated debut album ‘Original Copy’.
On August 10th, DJ Cuppy released the official track-list and features for his debut album with features from Stonebwoy, Fireboy, Wyclef, Darkoo, Teni, Seyi Shay and many more.
August 14th, Cuppy did the unexpected as she leaked her song with Stonebwoy after popular demand from the BHIM Nation fans and served as the second single from the album which drops on 21st August.
5 – Patoranking: Three (3)
August is looking more than promising for every music fan in Africa as Nigerian Reggae/Dancehall singer Patoranking announced his third studio album ‘Three’ will be out on 28th of August.
In 2019, the ‘Abule’ singer released his Sophomore album ‘Wilmer’ a title inspired by the birth of his daughter Wilmer. The Reggae inspired album received less attention and mixed reviews from critics from who expected more from Patoranking after a highly successful debut album ‘God Over Everything’.
Patoranking has provided less information about the album with regards to producers and artists featured on the project but has released the official cover art for the album and the first single off the album ‘Abule’.
With the global pandemic shaping the world, we can at least we can cheer up a bit with more music to fill up our playlist and hope for a better end to the year and a much better 2021.
