Ideally, hit records are usually accompanied with music videos, however we have had instances were some popular songs failed to get the visual treatment despite their popularity.
For that reason, we have compiled the top 5 popular Ghanaian songs; which earned a nomination in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ Popular Song of the Year category, without an official music video.
Sarkodie – Rich Nigga Shit (RNS)
Released in 2016, RNS was produced by M.O.G Beatz.
The song shot the producer to fame after it became a monster hit in the whole of Ghana and was nominated in the 2017 VGMA popular song of the year category.
Kofi Kinaata – Sweetie Pie
The audio slide on Youtube has over 2.5 Million views and was nominated in the VGMA song of the year category in 2017.
Wisa Greid – Ekiki Me ft Luther
Wisa Greid had his breakthrough into Ghana’s music scene after ‘Ekiki Me’ became a smash hit in the whole of Ghana.
‘Ekiki Me’ helped Wisa bag 6 nominations in the 2016 VGMA which includes the Popular Song of the Year category’
Stonebwoy – Baafira ft Sarkodie
‘Baafira’ meaning ‘Silence’ is a song that encourages people to do more and talk less.
The song was released in 2014 had a lot of controversies after Dancehall artist Rashid Metal accused Stonebwoy of stealing the word ‘Baafira’ from his song ‘Silence’.
The song featuring Sarkodie helped Stonebwoy win 3 awards which include the ultimate award, ‘Artiste of the Year’ out of 4 nominations in the 2015 VGMA
Wutah – Kotosa
‘Kotosa’, a timeless song on the second studio album ‘Burning Desire’ of the defunct group Wutah.
The song won the ‘High Life Song of the Year’ and lost ‘Popular Song of the Year’ to Bradez in the 2010 VGMA.
