Santrofi Band’s “Alewa” album Charts to the Sweet Spot in Europe
Highlife Made In Ghana Starts
Ghana’s new Highlife’s torchbearers, Santrofi, notched another milestone in their march to reconnect the genre with global audiences by topping European “World Music Charts” for July 2020. , The band achieved this feat with their current debut album aptly titled, “Alewa”.

The album which was released on April 24, 2020, has already generated serious buzz across the world leading to a hectic touring schedule in late 2019.

The band was booked for several European festivals which all met either postponement or cancellation due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. It is therefore a welcome sign that airplay and streaming continue to grow.

The chart is a compilation from the playlists of 43 radio producers in 24 European countries by Global music doyen and DJ Johannes Theurer on behalf of the World Music Workshop of the European Broadcasting Union which makes it no mean accomplishment for a debut album.

The Album contains ten songs with eclectic tracks like “Kokrokoo”, Alewa (Black and White), Kwaa Kwaa, Africa, Odom aba, Adwuma, Cocoase, Kwabena Amoah, Konongo Kaya, and Mobo all played and recorded live.

The hope is for this to power the reemergence of authentic live Ghanaian highlife to the world stage.
