Ebony Reigns, Sarkodie Missing: Top 5 VGMA Artists Since 2014

For two decades now, Charterhouse through its prestigious annual music award scheme, VGMA, has awarded Ghanaian musicians who excel in their various fields the year under review.

Though the show celebrates all musicians and awards, various winners, in each category on the nomination list, why don’t we highlight on the recent 5 Artist of the year since 2014.

The year 2014 was an interesting one with the Artiste of the year Award been contested by Castro, Kwabena Kwabena, Sonnie Badu, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Samini, and Guru.

Though they all stood tall that year Shatta Wale was crowned the ultimate winner of the night.

In the year 2015, it could be recalled that Sarkodie dominated the nomination list with 10 nominations. One of the categories the artist found himself in was the Artist of the year category with Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee Sarkodie and Samini.

The year 2016 was one of the best years for EL who led the pack with 10 nominations in the VGMA. It was no surprise when EL was crowned Artist of the year in spite of being in that category with  Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Bisa Kdei, SP Kofi Sarpong, and VVIP.

Joe Mettle in after a long time broke the jinx on Gospel artists by winning the artist of the year in 2017 in a race with EL, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, MzVee and Medikal

The final and the most recent artist of the year who has been reigning since the year 2018 as a result of the infamous misunderstanding between two nominees on the night in the year 2019 and the postponement of the ceremony as a result of COVID-19. The late Ebony Reigns, former signee of Ruff Town Records was and still remains Artist of the year.

Despite her sudden demise, her works like Sponsor won her the award ahead of Joe Mettle, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy.
