Ghanaian comedian Ajeezay has stated he was once the unfunniest comedian in Ghana when he began his Nonfa brand of comedy.
Detailing how Nonfa became his niche, Ajeezay told host Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh in an interview on Muse Africa that, he struggled to get the attention of Ghanaians which earned him the unfunniest comedian ever tag at a certain point.
“It wasn’t easy (when I began), I have been the unfunniest comedian Ghana has ever produced,” He said.
He went on to reveal his wave began on Twitter, which has made him the ‘hardest’ comedian on the internet but not mainstream.
Even with the success chalked by Ajeezay, he reveals his family doesn’t support his comedy career and that has helped him to grow tough skin when it comes to social media trolls and negativity on the net.
“On the on-set family didn’t like it. Even now they still don’t. (My) Family doesn’t support what I am doing. I have been in the space for close to 8 years.”
“So if you, you dey there wey you dey hate on me, wey my blood (family) say da and you wey I no know you, we never meet, ino buy phone or credit for you and you say I am not funny aa, we psych wanna body.”
Ajeezay has enjoyed so much love and support from Ghanaians after his Nonfa Comedy became the basis for the Josh2Funny viral challenge #DontLeaveMe.
The challenge seen people across the globe participate, becoming a beacon of light in this coronavirus era.
Many have attributed the challenge to Ajeezay, since he has pioneered that kind of comedy, leading to a global trend in 2016 and now in 2020.
