In light of the just-published Billboard Most Watched Home Grown Artists across Africa and the “Top 15 Sub-Saharan African Artists Based on Global Views” popular Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall act, Jderobie, has also expressed his unease on the matter.
Like some Ghanaians posited, Jderobie agrees that the number of views Ghanaians celebrate should actually be the starting line for the upcoming acts considering Ghana’s population.
He tweeted “Looking at our 30million population, like 1 million views should be something even an up and coming artists could easily get but the case is different we rather celebrate am like a party “.
This, of course, highlights a problem in Ghana in terms of patronage of Ghana music on digital platforms. If Ghanaians could use the same energy they use to lambast their artists to support their works and stream their videos, the narrative could change, 1 million views could be the starting point.
